About RIOS™
The Recycling Industry Operating Standard, RIOS for short, is the recycling industry's management system standard for quality, environment, and health and safety. Published by the Global Recycling Standards Organization and designed for recyclers, by recyclers, it brings the three disciplines that ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 each cover separately into one streamlined system.
RIOS is built on the plan, do, check, act model and takes a risk based approach. Its requirements are not prescriptive. Rather than telling a recycler how to run its business, the standard gives it a blueprint for evaluating, understanding, and eliminating quality, environmental, and health and safety risk in its own operation, with operational controls, communication procedures, measurable goals, and continual improvement.
A facility becomes a RIOS Certified Recycler only after an accredited certification body audits that system in two stages and finds it in place and followed. Coretek 360 holds that certification alongside its R2v3 certificate, which adds the electronics specific requirements for data security and downstream vendors.
Why it matters to you
RIOS integrates three management systems into one. Here is what each part means when you retire hardware with a certified recycler.
Quality
Consistent handling, every pickup
- Documented procedures for receiving, sorting, sanitizing, testing, and dispositioning every asset.
- Customer requirements captured up front and auditable against what was delivered.
- Serialized reporting that comes from the same controlled process each time.
Environment
Impacts measured and controlled
- A review of the facility's environmental impacts, from energy use to the recyclables it generates.
- A framework for monitoring compliance with every jurisdictional environmental regulation.
- Material kept out of landfill and routed to responsible downstream recyclers.
Health & Safety
A safe floor for the people doing the work
- Every area of the operation evaluated for hazards, with engineering and procedural controls in place.
- Training programs monitored so staff are regularly and adequately trained.
- Employees empowered to report near misses and propose improvements.
Our listing in the RIOS directory
Search for Coretek in the Find a RIOS Recycler tool and this is the entry you will find, with the four commodities our certification covers.
How to verify the certification
RIOS keeps a public directory of every certified recycler at rioscertification.org. Open the Find a RIOS Recycler tool and search by name for Coretek, or filter the list to the United States and North Carolina. The entry is held in the name of Coretek Enterprises, LLC, the company that operates as Coretek 360, which is why the directory shows the legal name with the dba.
The directory has no permanent link per recycler, so the button below opens the tool with Coretek already typed into the search box. The row it returns is reproduced underneath, and each commodity links to the service it covers here.

How a recycler earns RIOS certification
Seven steps, two of them independent audits, stand behind every name in the directory.
- 1.
Join RIOS
The facility becomes a RIOS member and receives a licensed copy of the standard, the implementation guide, and training.
- 2.
Build the management system
Procedures, operational controls, objectives, and measurements are put in place across quality, environment, and health and safety.
- 3.
Choose a certification body
An independent, accredited certification body and auditor are selected from those RIOS recognizes.
- 4.
Internal audit
The facility audits itself against the standard and corrects every nonconformance it finds.
- 5.
Stage 1 document review
The certification body reviews the documented system and the facility closes anything identified.
- 6.
Stage 2 certification audit
The auditor is on site, checking that the system is followed in practice before certification is granted.
- 7.
Listed in the directory
RIOS is notified of the result and the facility appears in the Find a RIOS Recycler tool, where it stays while the certification is maintained.
Frequently asked questions
What procurement and compliance teams ask about the certification.
What is RIOS?
RIOS is the Recycling Industry Operating Standard, a management system standard written for recyclers by the Global Recycling Standards Organization. It integrates quality, environmental, and health and safety management into one system, built on the plan, do, check, act model, and a facility is certified to it by an independent certification body.
How is RIOS different from ISO 9001 or ISO 14001?
ISO 9001 covers quality, ISO 14001 covers environment, and ISO 45001 covers health and safety, each as its own standard. RIOS brings the three together in one integrated system and writes the requirements for a recycling facility specifically, so the risks it asks a recycler to evaluate are the ones found on a recycling floor.
How do I verify that Coretek 360 is RIOS certified?
Open the Find a RIOS Recycler tool on rioscertification.org and search for Coretek, or filter by North Carolina. The entry reads Coretek Enterprises, LLC dba Coretek 360, at 290-B International Drive, Concord, NC 28027, and lists electronics recycling including collection, electronics refurbishing and repair, ITAD, and secure data destruction as the commodities covered.
What do the commodities on the listing mean?
They are the categories of recycling work the certified management system governs at our facility: collection and recycling of electronics, refurbishing and repair, IT asset disposition, and secure data destruction. They are the same services described on our solutions pages.
Does RIOS cover data destruction?
RIOS governs the management system, not the sanitization method. Data destruction at Coretek 360 is performed to NIST 800-88, and logical data sanitization is within our R2v3 certificate scope. Every drive receives a certificate of data destruction tied to its serial number.
Why does RIOS matter to our vendor review?
It shows an independent auditor has checked that the recycler runs a documented system for quality, environment, and safety, rather than taking its word for it. Together with the R2v3 certificate and the serialized report, it gives procurement and compliance teams a vetted recycler to point to.
Which other certifications does Coretek 360 hold?
Coretek 360 is R2v3 certified, with certificate C0177760-R26 issued by NSF. Media sanitization follows NIST 800-88, and handling is HIPAA compliant. All four credentials are current, and the resources page lists each one with where to verify it.
Who holds the certification?
Coretek Enterprises, LLC, the company that operates as Coretek 360. That is why the directory shows the legal name with the dba. The facility is in Concord, North Carolina, and the same company holds our R2v3 certificate.
