Data center decommissioning services, rack by rack.
Coretek 360 handles rack decommissioning, palletized removal, and media sanitization to NIST 800-88 for retired infrastructure, plus staging for the hardware that replaces it.
Data center decommissioning services, from rack to report.
Teardown, removal, migration, drive destruction, and resale for retired infrastructure, with every serial number documented. This is not the full list, so ask about anything you do not see.
Rack Decommissioning
Equipment is audited in place, powered down in the agreed sequence, cabled out, and torn down rack by rack. Every serial number is recorded before anything is unplugged, so the chain of custody starts at the rack.
- Servers, storage, network hardware, and more
- Audited and tagged before power down
- Cabling and PDUs removed
- Racks torn down
Infrastructure Removal
Decommissioning often goes beyond the IT hardware. Our crews also remove the infrastructure around it, such as racks, cabling, cooling systems, and anti-static flooring, so the room can be returned or reused.
- Racks and cabinets
- Cabling and power distribution
- Cooling systems
- Anti-static flooring and more
Data Center Migration
Moving instead of retiring? We plan and run site migrations with project management, de-installation, secure transport, and staging for the hardware that replaces what you retire.
- Project management
- De-installation and packing
- Secure transport between sites
- Staging for replacement hardware
Server Drive Destruction
Server and storage drives are wiped to NIST 800-88 and verified, or shredded, on site or at our facility, with a certificate of data destruction for every serial number.
- NIST 800-88 wiping, verified
- Hard drive shredding
- On site or at our facility
- A certificate for every serial
Hard drive shredding is performed in house by Coretek 360 and is not yet covered by our R2v3 certificate, which covers data sanitization, test and repair, and the downstream recycling chain. We are actively working to add it.
Secure Transport
Equipment is packed, palletized, and loaded by our team, then moved in GPS tracked vehicles under documented chain of custody from your loading dock to our floor. Dedicated truckloads are available for large sites.
- Packing and palletizing
- GPS tracked vehicles
- Dedicated truckload options
- Chain of custody documented
Server Remarketing & Recycling
Servers and network gear with life left in them are tested and resold, with the value returned itemized. Everything else is recycled through R2v3 certified downstream processors.
- Servers and network gear resold
- Value returned itemized
- R2v3 certified downstream recycling
Serialized Audit Reporting
A final serialized report accounts for every serial number from the site, with certificates of data destruction for each drive, ready for your auditors.
- Every serial number accounted for
- Certificates of data destruction
- A report you keep for your auditors
Frequently asked questions about decommissioning.
Direct answers on teardown, removal, media sanitization, and reporting.
What does decommissioning include?
Data center decommissioning services from Coretek 360 cover rack level teardown of retired infrastructure, palletized removal in tracked vehicles, and media sanitization of every server and storage drive to NIST 800-88. Each asset is recorded by serial number before power down, and the engagement ends with a serialized report and certificates of data destruction.
How is equipment removed?
It is packed, palletized, and hauled away from your site in tracked vehicles under documented chain of custody. The removal sequence, access windows, and loading route are agreed in the site survey, and every serial number loaded is reconciled against the inventory taken in the rack, then checked in again at our facility.
What happens to server and storage drives?
They are wiped to NIST 800-88 and verified, or shredded, with a certificate of data destruction tied to every serial number. Media sanitization can happen on site before drives leave your building or at our facility. Drives that fail wipe verification are shredded, and the method used is recorded in your report.
Can you help with the hardware that replaces it?
Yes. Deployment support covers staging, imaging, and rollout for the new equipment, so the replacement hardware can arrive ready to rack while the retired gear leaves. Both halves run on one schedule and one serialized record, which keeps the project to a single vendor and a single chain of custody.
Is every asset documented?
Yes. Each server, switch, and storage array is logged by serial number in the rack before power down and tracked through removal, sanitization, and final disposition. The final serialized report reconciles every serial number against your records and includes a certificate of data destruction for each drive, ready for auditors.
Can retired servers recover value?
Yes. Servers and network gear with life left in them are tested, graded, and resold through our sales channels, after their drives are wiped to NIST 800-88. The value returned is itemized by serial number in your report, so finance can offset the decommissioning cost against the residual value recovered.
Can drives be destroyed at our facility?
Yes. With on site destruction, drives are shredded at your data center and never leave it whole, which some security policies require. Each drive's serial number is logged before shredding so the certificate of data destruction traces to a specific device. Shredded material then goes to R2v3 certified downstream processors and is documented through final disposition.
What happens to equipment that cannot be reused?
It is recycled through R2v3 certified downstream processors and documented through final disposition in the same serialized report. Coretek 360 is also a RIOS Certified Recycler. Drives are sanitized or shredded first, with a certificate of data destruction per serial number, so recycled racks are documented to the same standard as resold ones.
